Daniele Vallisi spoke at the 47th Sagra dell’Asparago Verde di Altedo I.G.P, (Altedo P.G.I. Green Asparagus Fair), an event wholly dedicated to the mechanisation of the asparagus supply chain.
The convention topic was the use of machinery to assist growers from planting through to grade sorting prior to placing on the market. Major cost items in the farming process are planting, weed control and final clearance of the asparagus bed, harvesting and packing. Some of these procedures have already been mechanised. Hence the need for constant dialogue with asparagus growers to minimise production costs.
The convention was held in the municipal auditorium at Altedo, with speakers including Franco Girotti of Apofruit (Asparagus Varieties for the Emilia-Romagna Region), Luciano Trentini, Deputy Chairman of Areflh (Tilling and Mechanical Transplanting: Latest Developments) and Marco Mingozzi (Weed Control and Bed Clearance at the End of the Cycle).
They were followed by Daniele Vallisi (Mechanised Harvesting of Green Asparagus) and Alberto Sgorbati (Mechanical Grade Sorting of Green Asparagus for Higher Quality). The concluding remarks were by Gianni Cesari, Chairman of the “Asparago Verde di Altedo I.G.P.” Consortium.
Outside, visitors were able to view a display of machinery for use in the production chain.
